Personal Information

I was born in Ankara, in 20.12.1963. I received my primary, secondary and higher educations at TED Ankara College. I achieved 34th rank in Turkey Interuniversity Selection and Placement Examination and was admitted into Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine as the highest-ranking student. I was graduated from Faculty of Medicine in 1987 again as the highest-ranking student. By achieving success in TUS exam (examination for specialty in medicine) that was held in the same year, I continued with my education as an assistant at Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, which was my first preference. I finished my thesis on 8 June, 1994 and did well in specialty exam and received specialty diploma in Neurosurgery. During my assistantship, I researched on cell transplantation into brain in University of Birmingham, England. Furthermore, I received microsurgery training from Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil in University of Zurich, Switzerland.

In 1993, I did my short-term military service as medical officer.

I was assigned to Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery on 9 June 1994 as Neurosurgery Specialist - Lecturer. From December 1997 to March 1999, I worked with Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil as "Spine & Microsurgical Research Fellow" at the University of Arkansas, USA. During this period, I was awarded a scholarship and researched on spine biomechanics. After I returned to my country, I passed the exam held on 17 November, 1999 and received the title of "Associate Professor of Neurosurgery". My scientific and academic studies were deemed successful and I was assigned to Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery as Professor. I was nominated for American Academy of Neurological Surgery and granted membership. After I became a lecturer, I went to University of Helsinki, Finland and University Arkansas, USA as visiting professor upon invitation.

I have 118 papers published in national and international scientific journals and books as well as 83 oral and 68 poster presentations presented in national and international congresses. On 20 April, 2007, I received an invitation to take part in the book “Great Minds of the 21st Century”.

I still serve as a part-time lecturer at Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery. As of 1 June, 2016, I have been the President of the Department of Neurosurgery.
